Overall, 20.5% of the population was aged between 0 and 17, and 19.1% were aged 60 years and over, compared with 23.6% and 16.7% respectively for the Sydney Statistical Division.
 
The major differences between the age structure of Manly Council area and the Sydney Statistical Division were:
A larger percentage of 25 to 34 year olds (17.6% compared to 15.3%);
A smaller percentage of 18 to 24 year olds (7.5% compared to 9.9%), and;
A smaller percentage of 12 to 17 year olds (6.0% compared to 7.9%).
 
The largest changes in age structure in this area between 2001 and 2006 were in the age groups:
60 to 69 (+419 persons);
25 to 34 (-455 persons);
18 to 24 (-393 persons), and;
70 to 84 (-374 persons).
